The Outpatient Surgery Center in Appleton, Wisconsin applies a linear flow through entry, waiting, procedure and recovery spaces to a covered remote egress. The sometimes difficult procedures can cause pre-operative anxiety. The waiting space and the other patient areas are designed to create a sense of calm through the use of organic shapes, natural light and natural materials along with an easy and clear process flow. Other support spaces include business, sterilization, conference, and lab. Interior circulation corridors are provided with natural light via clerestory windows and cool daylighting concepts are applied into each procedure room and business office. Natural light and cool daylighting enhance the interior environment while minimizing the need for artificial light and diminishing energy consumption.

The overall effect of this building is one of efficiency, beauty, and warmth provided through cost-conscious design and detailed integration of modern technology.
