The Village of Morton is taking essential steps to improve its wastewater treatment infrastructure, and McMahon is proud to provide full design services for this impactful project.
Located in Morton, Illinois, the Morton Wastewater Treatment Facilities Improvements project encompasses upgrades to both of the Village’s treatment plants, ensuring they work together to best serve the community’s current and future needs.
Comprehensive Solutions for Two Facilities
Morton operates two wastewater treatment plants, Plant #2 and Plant #3, which are separated by several miles. Each plant has unique needs, and McMahon’s scope of work addresses improvements in a variety of areas. We have engaged our design, process mechanical, civil/site, architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing and HVAC identify and address critical upgrades to meet the needs of a growing community.
Plant #2’s upgrades include the complete replacement of its headworks facility, aeration basins, clarifiers, tertiary filters, sludge processing equipment and the lab/admin building. These enhancements touch every critical system and are designed to keep the Village’s largest treatment plant efficient and effective while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
Updates for Plant #3 focus on replacing the influent screening system, retrofitting the existing oxidation ditch and enhancing effluent disinfection to improve water quality. Together, these improvements will support long-term reliability and operational performance.
This project stands out not only for its scale but also for the unique challenges it presents. With the two plants separated by several miles, sludge processing is centralized at Plant #2, requiring careful coordination of hauling and storage.
Keeping Plant #2 operational during construction while meeting permit requirements adds another layer of complexity. Our team is developing and coordinating detailed strategies to ensure services remain uninterrupted throughout the construction process, protecting Morton residents from disruptions while maintaining compliance.
Funding Support and Community Impact
Beyond design work, McMahon’s certified grant specialist is assisting the Village of Morton in applying for funding through the State of Illinois’ low-interest State Revolving Fund Waste Pollution Control Loan Program. Our team is also managing compliance and reporting during the disbursement of funds, streamlining the financial process to keep this vital project on track.
The improvements to Morton’s wastewater treatment facilities represent a major investment in the community’s health, environment and future growth. Upgraded systems will allow the Village to better serve its population and efficiently manage wastewater for long-term sustainability.
McMahon is proud to partner with the Village of Morton on this project. Our expertise in architectural design, engineering and grant coordination positions us as a trusted leader in wastewater treatment solutions.
