McMahon is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Entry-Level Land Surveyor to join our civil engineering team. In this role, you will support field and office surveying activities for a wide range of infrastructure and land development projects, including subdivision platting, public and private surveys, roadways, utilities, stormwater systems, commercial sites, and municipal improvements. This position is ideal for individuals who want to grow within a civil engineering environment and develop a strong technical foundation in surveying and geospatial data collection.
Responsibilities
- Field Surveying
- Assist with surveys related to site development, subdivision platting, public and private surveys, roadway surveys and alignments, utilities, grading, and drainage.
- Perform construction staking for engineering designs, including curb & gutter, utilities, building corners, and earthwork.
- Operate and maintain total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, digital levels, and data collectors.
- Establish horizontal and vertical control for engineering design and construction activities.
- Collect accurate field measurements and document existing site conditions.
- Office & Technical Support
- Process field data for engineering design teams.
- Assist with the preparation of base maps, existing-condition surveys, boundary surveys, subdivision platting, legal descriptions right-of-way surveys, and topographic maps using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center software.
- Support civil engineering and survey staff by providing survey information needed for specific project needs.
- Research of public/private survey records.
- Preparation of data for construction staking needs.
- Maintain detailed and organized field notes, sketches, and logs.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with land surveyors, civil engineers, project managers, drafters, and designers to ensure accurate survey data is used in design plans.
- Communicate clearly with team members and construction personnel.
- Participate in training to gain proficiency in advanced surveying methods and software.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required, associate or bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- Interest in land surveying, civil engineering, land development, or construction surveying.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
- Strong math, problem-solving, and spatial reasoning skills.
- Basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D, data collection, or GIS software is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
