Wauwatosa and West Allis Fire Departments Explore Merger
In an attempt to save costs and avoid cutting staff, the fire departments in two of the largest cities in suburban Milwaukee are exploring the idea of joining forces.
Leadership in the West Allis and Wauwatosa fire departments are in favor of merging their departments following a consulting firm’s report that says both cities could save a combined $7 million in the next five years by coming together.

Winnebago County is seeking a forward-thinking, collaborative, and results-driven leader to serve as its next Director of Human Services. This is a rare opportunity to lead a department of more than 350 dedicated professionals delivering essential services that impact the health, safety, and well-being of our community.
This role requires a dynamic leader who can effectively administer mandated services while also advancing innovative strategies to address complex, non-mandated challenges such as homelessness, behavioral health needs, public safety diversion efforts, and community well-being.
Education: Master‘s degree or higher in a Human Services related field.
Experience: Ten years of progressively responsible supervisory and related experience including five years of prior experience at an upper management level in human services.
Knowledge: Budget preparation and management, effective program development and management, Wisconsin DHS administrative codes related to services, and governmental operations. Strong understanding of public sector service delivery and regulatory environments.

Winnebago County is seeking a forward-thinking, collaborative leader to serve as its next Medical Examiner. This is a unique opportunity to maximize the utilization of a recently constructed morgue facility that has the potential to compliment services needed by surrounding counties. The position will also collaborate to enhance services and use data analysis to identify trends and work with community partners on strategies to reduce preventable fatalities.
The ideal candidate brings a strong commitment to customer service, a data analysis mindset, and self-motivation to initiate partnerships and services. This role requires a leader with effective communication skills who can lead both daily operations and the long-range planning of the department.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, biology, emergency medicine, forensic science, criminal justice, or a related field.
Experience: Experience in medicolegal death investigation, emergency response, law enforcement, public health, or related analytical roles including supervisory roles.
Knowledge: Budget preparation and management, death investigation practices, evidentiary responsibilities, and Wisconsin statutes and case law relevant to the duties of the position.
Skillset: A responsive individual, committed to compassionate customer service, having a solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to identify, analyze, and communicate trends and emerging issues in preventable fatalities.

The Director will lead county-wide planning, zoning, GIS functions, and development while serving as a trusted advisor to the County Executive, County Board, municipalities, developers, and residents. This role requires a leader with effective communication skills who can lead county efforts to identify and advance redevelopment opportunities and strategic growth areas.
