In an attempt to save costs and avoid cutting staff, the fire departments in two of the largest cities in suburban Milwaukee are exploring the idea of joining forces.
Leadership in the West Allis and Wauwatosa fire departments are in favor of merging their departments following a consulting firm’s report that says both cities could save a combined $7 million in the next five years by coming together.

Education: Master‘s degree or higher in a Human Services related field.

Winnebago County is seeking a forward-thinking, collaborative leader to serve as its next Medical Examiner. This is a unique opportunity to maximize the utilization of a recently constructed morgue facility that has the potential to compliment services needed by surrounding counties. The position will also collaborate to enhance services and use data analysis to identify trends and work with community partners on strategies to reduce preventable fatalities.
The ideal candidate brings a strong commitment to customer service, a data analysis mindset, and self-motivation to initiate partnerships and services. This role requires a leader with effective communication skills who can lead both daily operations and the long-range planning of the department.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, biology, emergency medicine, forensic science, criminal justice, or a related field.
Experience: Experience in medicolegal death investigation, emergency response, law enforcement, public health, or related analytical roles including supervisory roles.
Knowledge: Budget preparation and management, death investigation practices, evidentiary responsibilities, and Wisconsin statutes and case law relevant to the duties of the position.
