Project Overview:
Following the development of a Water System Master Plan for the Town of Greenville, three pressure zones were combined into a single zone. The Town’s newest elevated tower was sized to compensate for the loss of the storage capacity provided by a south tower that could now be taken out of service. An adjustment of the overflow elevation also necessitated the lowering of the existing north tower to match the new overflow elevation.
The Town also considered options to repair the iron filter system at Well #3, which was leaking from the tank’s bottom plate. Rather than try to repair the tank, which would provide a temporary fix, Greenville opted for a long-term solution and replaced the leaking tank with a new packaged iron filter system.
The new filter system was provided with a removable underdrain plate, so that the area below the underdrain plate could be factory coated to protect the steel from corrosion as well as allowing for inspection and re-coating, if necessary, as part of a preventative maintenance plan. The existing filter system was kept in service during the construction of the new facilities.
