Project Overview:
The City and Town of Menasha worked together on this mutually beneficial pond project that accepts runoff from a 1,217-acre watershed. The purpose of Tayco Pond is to provide flood control and assist with Total Maximum Daily Load compliance which includes Total Phosphorus and Total Suspended Solids pollutants.
Due to several flow by-passes into Lake Winnebago in the southern portion of the City of Menasha’s storm sewer system, special XP-SWMM and WinSLAMM modeling was required to accurately calculate pollutant load reductions provided by Tayco Pond. Large backflow devices and special construction techniques were required to maintain separation between the water in Little Lake Butte des Morts and Tayco Pond.
Pond landscaping consists of native prairie grasses, wildflowers, and wetland plants.
The project was awarded $930,000 in ARRA grant funds and $930,000 in Clean Water Fund loans.
